Rochelle Summerfield is a versatile artist working with a range of traditional and contemporary print media, drawings and photography. Her work has been described as an investigation into the human condition, exploring ideas on identity, memory and transformation.
In 2009, Rochelle Summerfield was awarded the CPM National Biennial Print Tony Abernathy Memorial Prize for the Human Condition by Basil Hall. She was selected for the 2009 Print Council of Australia Print Commission and received the Merit Prize for Photomedia Manipulation by Judge Naomi Cass, in Picture this’09, Melbourne. Ms. Summerfield has been a finalist for national competitions such as the Freemantle Print Award, JADA, Prometheus and Hutchins and won several local art awards. She received an Outstanding Achievements in Arts in the Community Award, by Southern Cross University for her work as one of the founding members of case inc.,an artist run space and studio previously located at the Piece Gallery Mullumbimby.
Rochelle Summerfield is represented in several major collections such as the National Library Permanent Collection, Charles Sturt University Art Collection, Wagga Wagga, RMIT Gallery Melbourne, University Of Ballarat Art Collection and other collections both private and public.
Ms. Summerfield has a Masters in Arts and First Class Honours Degree in Visual Arts Southern Cross University and been teaching art subjects at TAFE and University as well as private workshops for many years.
