About

This course covers the key work skills that Byron Shire Council require applicants to have when applying for their traineeships and/or apprenticeships across their areas of operation. Work skills that you will learn include customer service and conflict management, bringing enthusiasm and reliability to your workplace, digital technology skills with emails, internet, word processing and online record keeping, as well as communication, working as part of a team and problem solving.

You will be required to undertake 8 weeks of work experience throughout this course, two days per week. You will work across a range of areas within Council operations, areas include: - Childcare Centre, Water Operations, Records Management, Customer Service, Community Enforcement and/or Cavanbah Centre (facilities/sports centre).

Topics covered

The 5 units of competency from FSK10213 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways include:

  • FSKLRG08 – Use simple strategies for work-related learning
  • FSKDIG02 – Use digital technology for simple workplace tasks
  • FSKOCM03 – Participate in simple spoken interactions at work
  • FSKLRG09 – Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems
  • FSKRDG07 – Read and respond to simple workplace information

Entry Requirements

  • No previous experience or knowledge is required
  • Students must be at least 17 years of age to enrol

Course Duration & Hours

  • Two days a week in class sessions: 10.00 am – 3.30pm
  • This course requires you to undertake work experience in the community and with the Council services. The College will assist you to arrange your work experience.
  • Held at the Mullumbimby Campus

Course Fees

  • Course is fully subsidised but students are required to pay an $80 resource fee

USI

From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the USI website and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Important Information

Once your enrolment is completed you will receive a confirmation email. This email will be your receipt and inform you of the dates, time and venue of your course, it will also let you know of anything you need to take to class with you. Please make sure that you give us a valid email address and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via sms or email.
