Bamboo Basics
Assessments are made against units of competency from the Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways FSK10213.
  • Write basic workplace information (FSKWTG03)
  • Read and respond to simple workplace procedures (FSKRDG05)
  • Use digital technology for basic workplace tasks (FSKDIG01)
  • Identify strategies to respond to basic workplace problems (FSKLRG02)
  • Participate in simple spoken interactions at work (FSKOCM03)

One of the most intensive “hands on” bamboo courses available in Australia. Using the world’s most sustainable material you will learn how to grow and maintain bamboo for both timber and shoot production, how to harvest and preserve poles and the basic building and craft skills to enable you to tackle large or small bamboo projects.

Be a part of a team in this course, building bamboo structures and trellis at the Mullumbimby Community Garden with Julianne Hartman and Sharon Gibson. Julianne is a pioneer of bamboo building and craft in Australia and helped set up new industries in East Timor and other countries. Some of the practical projects you will work on include simple bamboo structures, trellis, fences and weaving. Why wait? You will learn

  • Learn the basics of growing and using bamboo.
  • Learn how to grow and maintain bamboo, harvest poles and do basic joints, splitting and weaving.
  • Be a part of a team in this hands on workshop building bamboo structures and trellis at the Mullumbimby community garden.

Entry Requirements

  • No previous experience or knowledge is required
  • Students must be at least 17 years of age to enrol

Course Duration & Hours

This course is delivered in two blocks:
Block one: June 18th – July 3rd
Block Two: August 6th – 21st

Student Policies and Procedures

USI

From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the USI website and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Important Information

Once your enrolment is completed you will receive a confirmation email. This email will be your receipt and inform you of the dates, time and venue of your course, it will also let you know of anything you need to take to class with you. Please make sure that you give us a valid email address and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via sms or email.
