Are you a small business owner, or starting out with a great new idea but not sure where to begin? Having a strong foundation for your business is important. Our Certificate IV in New Small Business gives you the skills and knowledge required to improve your performance with a clear business plan. You will learn how to undertake market analysis, design a marketing strategy (that includes using social media), structure your business, meet legal and risk management requirements and understand financial planning and monitoring.

Course Length, Dates & Hours

  • Two days per-week in a classroom 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • You will be required to complete projects outside of class time, and a significant amount of home study is required.
  • Delivery location: Byron Bay Campus

This course is Austudy Approved. Full time workload would be 21 hours per week for 17 weeks.

Subsidised Training under Smart and Skilled

This course is being offered as a subsidised course to eligible students under the NSW Government Smart and Skilled program. Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. Many of our full qualifications have full or part fee subsidies available for eligible students.

To apply for a Smart and Skilled Fee-Free Scholarship place you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent residency or humanitarian visa status
  • Live or work in New South Wales
  • Be aged between 15-30 years of age
  • Provide evidence of your concession-eligibility

To apply for a Smart and Skilled Concession (S&S Concession) place you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent residency or humanitarian visa status
  • Live or work in New South Wales
  • Provide evidence of your concession-eligibility

Payment Plan
Course fees are paid in instalments scheduled throughout the duration of the course. Fee schedules for individual courses are outlined on the enrolment paperwork available through the college administration team.

Sandi Twohill

In mid-2017 while recovering from an injury, I considered options available to me for full-time study that would equip me with the skill and knowledge to embark on my own small business venture in the rural industry. The Byron College staff were very helpful in explaining the enrollment process and options available to me; including the possibility of a Smart & Skilled fee subsidy. Kate and Lance offered valuable support both prior to and during the course.

The time studying and researching my ideas, goals and aspirations for a rural business has allowed me to build a solid framework and has equipped me with the skill to develop a document to support future financial applications and a guide for the ‘day-to-day’ running of a small business. The course identified some areas for up-skilling so I have continued with some further studies with the aim to grow and develop my business, which I plan to roll out in 2019.

I could not have had a more satisfying journey through the process of achieving my qualification. The staff and fellow students were supportive, engaging and inspirational. I really feel a sense of purpose and confidence in paving my own way in the future.

From the 1st of January 2015, any student enrolling in an Accredited Training course will be required to obtain a USI. The USI helps to keep your training records and results together in an online account which is controlled by you. You can logon to the USI website and follow the simple instructions online to create your USI. This then needs to be provided to the College at the time of enrolment.

Important Information

Once your enrolment is completed you will receive a confirmation email. This email will be your receipt and inform you of the dates, time and venue of your course, it will also let you know of anything you need to take to class with you. Please make sure that you give us a valid email address and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via sms or email.
