Drawing In The Park

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

Drawing and Painting outside is a great way to relax and observe the details of nature. We will be based in Heritage Park in Mullumbimby and will meet in the studio first to explore a variety of drawing and painting techniques. We will make short trips out into the park throughout the day, regrouping in the studio to refresh ourselves and check on progress made.

The tutor will demonstrate various ways of using Graphite pencils, felt tipped pens, watercolour and gouache (opaque watercolour), and tips for remaining comfortable whilst working outdoors. If the weather makes it impossible to go outside, we will retreat back to the studio to draw from natural specimens. This course is suitable for beginners and experienced students, as each person will be attended to individually.

What to bring

  • At least one natural object
  • Graphite pencils at least a 6B and 4B
  • Bulldog clip or two
  • Vinyl eraser and kneadable eraser
  • Waterproof black (or other colour) felt tipped pen (copic, Faber Castel or Micron)
  • Sketchbook/journal (with paper preferably 140gsm or heavier)
  • A small set of watercolours…..watercolour pans in a metal palette is ideal. Buy the highest quality set you can afford. Otherwise please bring at least two watercolour tubes of paint…and if you already have tubes of watercolour, bring them and use them instead of the pans if you don’t have pans.
  • A tube of white gouache (optional)
  • A small white palette for mixing watercolour paint.
  • A brush or two…..a round and a flat are useful…a small fan brush can really extend your painting repertoire.
  • Small spray bottle
  • Small bottle of water with a sealed lid….this will be what you will wash your brush in.
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Water to drink
  • Snack or lunch
