Introduction To Drawing

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

This one day workshop will introduce you to the many delights of drawing. Demonstrations and simple exercises will acquaint participants with the drawing media of pencil, in a relaxed yet stimulating environment. Be inspired to draw and to continue drawing! Additional materials $5.

There will be exercises and demonstrations throughout the day. The tutor will bring a folio of her own drawings and art books to illustrate a wide range of drawing styles.

  • Introduction to drawing materials. Graphite (lead pencil), erasers, embossing tools and paper.
  • Slow contour drawing- concentrating on the edges of a 3D form.
  • How to draw easily using basic shapes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the day you will have:

  • Practical experience of different ways to approach drawing.
  • How to observe subject matter accurately, and in turn draw what is seen.
  • Insights into the way artists see and draw their subjects.
  • A taste of hand-eye co-ordination.

What to bring

  • 2B, 4B and 6B pencil( Mars Lumograph are recommended)
  • 10 sheets of A4 paper, can be recycled paper, one side must be blank.
  • An action figure torn from a magazine (that is performing an action such as dancing, surfing etc…..not a cartoon character)
  • An object that fits into the palm of your hand (can be anything….keyring, mini torch, shell, feather, flower etc.
  • Note book and pen
  • Rag to clean hands
  • Mug
  • Please bring your own lunch
  • $5 to pay tutor for materials

Important information

Once your enrolment is completed you will receive a confirmation email. This email will be your receipt and inform you of the dates, time and venue of your course, it will also let you know of anything you need to take to class with you.
