All of a sudden from one week to the next, the impact of Covid-19 is being experienced by us all, directly or indirectly. This interactive seminar series takes a group on a journey through six key topics to explore and implement practical skills and support strategies us as we find our way in this fast changing landscape.

Topics include:

Week 1 – Drawing on our Creative Strengths

What is Creativity?
Why might Creativity be important in times of challenge?
Exploring a Creative Practice
Finding and connecting to our own creative strengths
Relationship of Creativity to Positive Psychology through key constructs of Csikszentmihalyi’s Flow theory, Fredrikson’s Broaden and Build theory)

Week 2 – Managing Stress

Symptoms of Stress
Fight/Flight and Rest/Digest
Inverted U model of stress and recovery
Reacting or Responding
Science of sleep
Recovery strategies

Week 3 – Working with challenging emotions

Difference between reacting and responding
Positive emotion, negative emotion and the amygdala
Working with emotions from an Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective
Strategies to work with challenging emotions
Role of self-compassion

Week 4 – Meditation & Mindfulness practices

What is mindfulness and how can it be of benefit at this time
Brief overview of latest research linking mindfulness to brain function, resilience, effective rest and stress recovery
Explore several mindfulness and meditation techniques so that participants can draw on approach which best meets their needs

Week 5 – Lessons from Positive Psychology

What is Positive Psychology and how can it be of benefit at this time?
Understanding PERMA model and its relevance to current experience under Covid-19
Unpacking Flow theory, Gratitude and Connection to support participants and their communities

Week 6 – Creating Rituals for life under covid

Importance of routine, positive habits/rituals in times of increased stress
Strategies to support ourselves
Managing uncertainty
Creating a Plan

This is an online class

  • learn from the comfort of your own home, this class will be delivered live online via the Zoom platform
  • you need an email address, a reliable internet connection, a microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer
