Song Of The Saw

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

Over the past 20 years I’ve been a woodwork teacher, people often ask me “where do I start?” I say, start with the humble saw. If you can saw straight by hand, then you can make joints and if you can make joints then you can join wood together. If you can join wood together you can make simple and beautiful objects from wood like the chopping board you will design and make at this workshop. You will also learn about wood, traditional measuring, the Tenon saw, body posture and how to saw straight and true, gluing and clamping, shaping and sanding and using an edible oil to finish.

"Have you ever listened to the song of the saw?
How it changes its pitch, just near the end of the cut.
You don’t have to be strong.
It’s not like hacking off a branch in the garden.
Sawing is a gentle art."
