Though spellbinding in its effects, creative writing itself isn’t magical. Whether you’ve always wanted to write and not known where to start, or just want to start scribbling, we’ll make a beginning. Take a peep at attitudes affecting creativity and at what stops us writing. We’ll then plunge headlong into sorting story ideas, exploring characters, description and dialogue, learning how to give feedback, and revising and editing.

This is a creative writing course for anyone wanting to find or strengthen their own unique voice, and work with their inner critic. Learn how to break through writers' blocks and to give and receive constructive feedback in a safe environment. During this course you will write a short story, or alternatively you are welcome to bring something you are working on; for example a memoir, a novel, or a piece of literary non-fiction.

  • I loved the style of teaching and learning that Barbara knowledgeably, skillfully and sensitively enabled. It was great to learn via zoom, in one's own home, with resources e-mailed. I appreciated the small group learning with people of different ages and perspectives. It was exciting learning about and engaging with creative writing, for the first time. A fabulous, albeit challenging experience. Huge thanks to Barbara..
